Who We Are
Bridgeton Onized Federal Credit Union is a federally chartered credit union located in Cumberland County, New Jersey.
We received our Certificate of Organization on October 14, 1939 with our first board meeting being held April 19, 1940. Employees of Owens Illinois, a local glass factory, formed the credit union to provide financial service to the employees and family members of the glass factory. Since our inception, we have grown to serve more than 100 member groups, more than 7,500 owners, not only in Cumberland County, but in surrounding counties and states as well. Employees of those member groups, their families and their friends have the honor of ownership. Bridgeton Onized FCU is democratically controlled and provides its owners a safe place to borrow and save at reasonable rates. Our mission is to provide financial education and guidance to our owners by maintaining a dependable presence in their financial future.
Federal Credit Union Mandates
Credit unions are governed by ownership/membership. Government stipulates that people who own accounts in credit unions will govern that credit union. Supervisory Committees and Directorships are comprised of credit union owners/members. We have instituted a volunteer process by which we encourage owners/members to commit a part of their time to Bridgeton Onized Federal Credit Union. Even though the Board of Directors is an elected position there is much work to be done in other venues in a volunteer or Supervisory Committee capacity. The Supervisory Committee is a "watch dog" committee that oversees management in the performance of their duties.
